Welcome to The Sircle, a vibrant community of spiritual dance and yoga enthusiasts. We are on a mission to empower your energy, unify your mind, body, and spirit, and create a sense of belonging. CIRCLE

Circles are not just sacred, they are also continuous with no corners or definitive edges. They create a continuous energy flow both into the center, around the circle and expanding out. It also encourages us to learn and move in a way that is nonlinear and step away from the back and front style of learning that dominate our learning experiences. A circle creates connection, wholeness, and fullness.

REPETITION

REPETITION

Repetition is all around us, and when we see it aesthetically, visually, we pause… we reflect. Every ancient church, temple, mosque, and monastery all have repeating patterns. Repetition and pattern give us the structure to connect and the freedom to explore and expand in that connection. It also helps enforce body memory and release control from the mind. With every repetition we have the opportunity of experiencing and expressing a new sensation, which allows us to go deeper into those sensations. Symbolically, it also reinforces the concept of creation and destruction and the continuity of cycles in life.

BUILDING

Building the sequence is one of Sircles key components. It is this component that eases and maintains the mind and body into a flowstate. To maintain a flow, we build the sequence gradually and isolate the sequence based on feeling and sensation. This way when the body repeats a movement, it is repeating and remembering a sensation and the mind cannot interfere. So the sequence builds into a string of sensations versus a string of movements. Even for those students who have already done a sequence, the body starts off slow and repeats and builds so that the mind never switches on.

It has been scientifically proven that music impacts various parts of our brain and mood. And in dance, it helps us experience and then express a certain emotion. It is our connector from feeling to expressing. When music enters through the ears, the brain processes it, relates to it and the body expresses it. Whether it is personal, societal or universal, music forces us to confront a variety of emotions, which we are normally covering or just running by in our days. In Sircle we make time for emotions and feelings, and the music is intensely rhythmic or calmingly musical. Normally the music tends to be non-culture specific, because when sounds speak… they speak.

MEDITATION

MEDITATION

Our days are filled with information overload, and most of our physical movements are also using our minds to control our body. In the meditation we set our intention to empty out the past, create a wall for the future, and create an empty vehicle in which we begin activation of the present. This activation of the present is what allows us to drop in to our bodies, so that in the practice we move from the sensation and not from the mind.

FORM

BREATH

The initiation of breath in the meditation helps release any blockages and empty out anything that is stuck and stagnant. It also helps release and drop more easily into the body versus the mind. Once the breathe starts flowing easily, it activates the energetic body. All ancient forms of movement have a different name for this energy. In Yoga it’s called Prana, the energy life force. In Tai Qi or Qi Gong, the energy is Qi. When we do physical movements using breathe, the practice energizes versus depletes the energy.

WHIRLING

FORM & WHIRLING

In current spiritual dance forms, form is frequently overlooked. If we rush a practitioner into free form, then it is more like a drug. You get a high, activation and release but after the dance is over you won’t feel it again until the next time you dance. The purpose of Sircle is to become a part of the body’s intelligence in and out of the dance practice, which is where the form comes in. Each sequence helps us dig a bit deeper into what we feel, how we feel, and our whirl helps release and embrace freedom and expansion.
